Adult Bible Study

Hello friends—we are always so grateful to you for your ongoing prayers on behalf of our family and the ministry here. We regularly feel uplifted by those prayers and the words of encouragement through email and cards.

We are working through 1 & 2 Timothy in the adult Bible Study class at Chaiyo Church.

Over the last several weeks we have had several new individuals and families begin attending Chaiyo church. Traci was given the opportunity to lead the children’s Sunday School class one week while the regular teacher was out sick, and both Nick and Traci have each led the adult Bible study time as well. We chose to do an inductive-style study, and the messages were well received—the wife of one of the new Thai families even said, “I came from a big church, far away. They speak in a very high language and I do not understand a lot of what it means. This was very practical and helps me understand the Bible more clearly, and what it means for me.” We are so excited to see our little Thai church family growing—both with believers (new and “seasoned”) as well as “seekers.”

TCCC Conference

Over our school’s October break our team traveled south to Pattaya for a conference with the Thai national branch of Cru—Thailand Campus Crusade for Christ (TCCC). This was the first time the Thai national conference has also included the international teams, and due to Covid, the Thai staff across Thailand have not been able to meet for this conference in three years! We felt very honored to be included as international staff, and tried to go in with open hands and hearts—ready to learn from them and meet many of the staff for the first time.

This is our smaller intern team: Gary (far left) has been on staff with Cru for over 40 years, but is serving on our intern team this year--he is settling into life in Thailand now after spending quite a few years in a "restricted access" country. Madde (far right) is in her second intern year with us, and Erin just arrived for the first time at the end of July.

There were over two hundred full-time missionaries within Thailand (both Thai and international) in attendance, and it was so encouraging to hear the vision cast for the ministry straight from the TCCC director. Missionaries first came to Thailand nearly 200 years ago, and yet, still less than 1% of Thais claim Christ as their Savior. TCCC’s vision is: “To build movements everywhere, so that every Thai person would know someone that truly follows Jesus.” The conference definitely helped build further momentum toward that vision.

This was the first time we have been able to do worship with this quantity of people, in Thai and English simultaneously. It was really beautiful to be a part of--knowing we are all singing to the one true God, but in different languages.

There was a lot of energy and excitement within the Thai staff, and it was certainly a cultural experience for our team to be a part of—including huge portions with zero translation—but we are so grateful to see first-hand how God is using Thais to reach their own people.

Additional Highlights

Moriah (grade 2) has really excelled with her reading this year. She went from hardly reading at all last year, to now reading at the level of a late-stage 3rd grader! As a result, her teacher has encouraged her to participate in the student read-aloud time at the end of each school day. We are so very grateful for all of the teachers that invest so thoughtfully into each of our children.
Nick has been participating in a monthly, local B.A.M. (Business As Missions) meet-up where they discuss different strategies and network with one another.
Over the weekend we were able to go on an overnight camping trip with our Thai church--Chaiyo. We had a great time playing, worshipping, and resting together.
